Household cleaning products should meet the requirements set out in Green Seal Standard GS-8

The main requirements set out in this standard are as follows:

• non-toxic to humans when undiluted
• non-toxic to aquatic life when diluted
• no carcinogens, mutagens or reproductive toxins
• non-corrosive to the eye
• easily biodegraded in water
• minimal phosphate content
• low in volatile organic compounds
• no 1-butoxyethanol, alkylphenol ethoxylates, phthalates, heavy metals, ozone-depleting compounds or optical brighteners
• packaged in recyclable packaging.
