High-efficiency furnaces (natural gas and/or propane) criteria

  1. Annual Fuel Utilisation Efficiency [AFUE] of over 94% (higher than the EnergyStar requirement of 90%, so not all EnergyStar approved furnaces will qualify for the directory)

  2. a variable-speed, electronically commutating d.c. motor for the fan.

The AFUE should be tested in accordance with Canadian Standard CGA P.2-1991.
